GroundJewels is delighted to showcase an exclusive capsule collection by Kirsten Sonne. Inspired by GroundWork’s ‘Deep Water’ exhibition. Sonne’s craft and eye for found materials collide to create a breath-taking selection of new jewels.
Deep Water
The new collection takes inspiration from the work of the ‘Deep Water’ artists. This exhibition looks at the dangers under deep water. Showing some of the passionate concerns of artists about eco-systems and species which are under stress. All those exhibiting have specialist knowledge – of eco-systems, of species and of deep local and indigenous experience. They are drawing attention to the dangers and the degradation – but share an overriding impulse to repair. A sentiment that Sonne was inspired by.
“I was particularly drawn to the current exhibition ‘Deep Water’, as I have

been inspired often with water and the things found within it, such as eelgrass.”
Beauty in the Found
Kirsten’s pieces enable one to transform their look from ordinary to the extraordinary. The new collection is no different. From gold plated crab claws to deep green sea glass, there are jewels a plenty. Kirsten’s jewellery echoes the themes of the exhibition, and highlights its ethos of connecting environmental awareness and contemporary art.
All materials used have been found by Kirsten in her local environment. Leading, and informing, her design process. New pieces include motifs of the water, such as fish, coral, pearls and eelgrass. However they are presented in materials that challenge our perception. A juxtaposition of the natural and unnatural. Her jewellery highlights the beauty of recycling and the possibilities of found material.
