Recycled metals cut from car number plates

Description
Kirsten Sonne has made this striking red and white bracelet from recycled metals. A recurring design theme, often she finds metals from Copenhagen roofs and decorative tins. Anything which has a pattern or texture becomes a candidate. Somehow you would probably never guess that this red and white bracelet is made up of car number plates. Striking to wear, and immediately noticeable, it is one of those jewels which can transform your look. While she sometimes works on themes or in series, like all her works, this one is never exactly repeated. Kirsten is a fantastic collector of delightful odds and ends that end up as jewels.
About the artist
Kirsten’s work is always chic and individual, often witty and full of fun.. She understands balance and proportion. A former graphic designer, she has contemporary art and design as part of her background. She is also inspired by high-end, street fashion, and other jewellery, modern and ethnic.
“‘Since I graduated from Danish Design School, I worked as graphic designer with non-commercial graphic design (book covers, leaflets, posters, cd-covers etc) from my studio in central Copenhagen. I love my profession, but as the computer changed the way of working – no more brushes, pencils, paper, ink – I slowly started missing the connection with the materials and working with my hands.’”
Recycled materials inspire her and are the basis of her work. She makes everything by hand and never exactly repeats a piece, though she sometimes pursues themes and series. So, you can count on each piece being unique. Often she will make special ranges of earrings, brooches, bracelets and necklaces to fit Groundwork’s themes.
Living and working in Denmark, Kirsten has her own shop in Copenhagen . She sells through many art galleries, and in England also sells at the jewellery gallery @work in London.
